The Telecommunications branch ensures a common direction for province-wide communications, equal access to services, and effective delivery of government programs, while finding cost-effective solutions. 

Telecommunications provides the following services to government:

  • Centrex and Centrex IP services
    • includes converting approximately 10,800 executive government lines and handsets to VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology
  • Long distance/toll-free service
  • Cellular service
  • Voicemail service
  • Perimeter Call Management Host Service for call centres
  • Coordination of Blue Page listings in ten provincial telephone books
  • Development and management of Government telephone directory system
  • Conference Bridge Service(teleconference capability)
  • Priority Access Dial program (PAD)
    • provides contingency plans for telephone services in event of an emergency
  • CommunityNet
    • a single high-speed IP broadband communications network serving the Education, Health and Executive Government sectors in 366 locations across the province
  • Government Web Pages and Application Hosting Service
