The Telecommunications branch ensures a common direction for province-wide communications, equal access to services, and effective delivery of government programs, while finding cost-effective solutions.
Telecommunications provides the following services to government:
- Centrex and Centrex IP services
- includes converting approximately 10,800 executive government lines and handsets to VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology
- Long distance/toll-free service
- Cellular service
- Voicemail service
- Perimeter Call Management Host Service for call centres
- Coordination of Blue Page listings in ten provincial telephone books
- Development and management of Government telephone directory system
- Conference Bridge Service(teleconference capability)
- Priority Access Dial program (PAD)
- provides contingency plans for telephone services in event of an emergency
- CommunityNet
- a single high-speed IP broadband communications network serving the Education, Health and Executive Government sectors in 366 locations across the province
